Potters Back In The Win Column

The Lincoln Potters were back home on Thursday night in a non-league showdown against the Athletic Edge Express, coming to the Bean from Petaluma. Payton Brennan continued his red-hot start with the Potters, while Anthony Martinez logged five strong innings in a win on the mound. For their efforts, the Potters were rewarded with a narrow win, their 22nd on the year.

Payton Brennan was once again the story of this game thanks to his red-hot bat. In just his third game with the Potters, Brennan recorded a 3-for-3 night that was highlighted by a no-doubt home run over the right field wall, followed by a ceremonial silent treatment from his teammates in the dugout. Brennan has instantly made a name for himself in the Potters lineup, going 8-for-12 in his first three games with the team, logging three RBI, two stolen bases, and four runs scored. Other notable offensive performances would come from Hudson Brown (2-2, 3 BB, 1 RBI), Eli Small (1-4, 2 RBI, BB), and Cade Parker (2-run go-ahead HR).

Leading the Potters on the mound was Anthony Martinez. It would be a slow start for the Sierra righty, allowing three runs in his first two innings of work before settling down for three more scoreless frames. Martinez would earn the win for his efforts, his third of the summer. A strong bullpen would also help lead the Potters to victory, featuring a shutout inning from Logan Bell, and Nolan Thebiay’s second save in three days to lock down the victory.

The Potters now set their eyes on the Humboldt Crabs once again, as they will hit the road Friday morning for a three game series at Arcata Ballpark, their first road PEL series of the season. Baseball at McBean will return on Tuesday, July 2 when the Chico Nuts come to town for a non-conference matchup.
