Defense Sparks Offense Late in the Game

Lincoln Potters relief pitcher Preston Brook, the Raising Canes Player of the Game, pitched the Potters out of an eighth inning bases loaded one out jam when up by only one run. Brook closed out the game allowing no hits and no runs over the final 2 innings of the Potters’ 6-3 victory over the visiting West Coast Kings Gold Saturday night.

Both teams started off slow with no runs until the 3rd inning when the Potters’ JR Freethy answered the Kings one run with a stand up triple then would score the Potters first run of the game on a ground out.

The runs continued to come in the 6th inning when an RBI single by Sean White and a 2 RBI double by TJ Osters put the Potters up 4-1.

The Kings started off the 8th inning by scoring 2 more to put the game within one before Brook came in to relieve and shut down Kings Gold.

Brook’s clutch pitching in the 8th sparked the bats for the Potters in the bottom of the inning. Hits by Tripp Garris, Mike Lavigne, Cole Eaton and a sacrifice fly by Hudson Brown all contributed to another 2 runs for the Potters to extend the lead.

Both teams played solid defensive games tonight. Neither team committed any errors and the game ended with a Potters 6-4-3 double play.

The Potters’ next matchup is the San Francisco Seals on Sunday, June 9th at 1:05pm. Come on out to McBean Stadium for Military Slice Sunday. Military and family get in free with a Military ID.
