Potters Pitching Shines in 3-1 Victory

Potters Pitching Shines in 3-1 Victory

For the second time this season, the Potters pitching staff did not disappoint, striking out 18 combined batters in a narrow win over the Novato Knicks Saturday night.

Making the start and earning his first win of the summer was southpaw Caden Hunter. The USC commit was phenomenal, striking out nine batters across four scoreless innings of work, in which he allowed just two hits and took a perfect game into the fourth inning. Hunter credited his defense that played behind him, which had a very solid showing tonight with highlights such as Quincy Malbrough’s diving catch in center field.

Other highlights from the mound came from Anthony Martinez, who threw three innings of no-hit baseball in relief while striking out six Knicks. Martinez would then turn the ball over to two arms from Jessup University, as Preston Brook and Eric Vasser would combine for the final two innings of work, striking out one and two batters respectively. A strikeout looking with the tying run on second base would spell the end of the game for Novato, and earned Vasser his first save of the season.

At the plate, the Potters offense was highlighted by Jake Tandy, who provided two big insurance runs from a looping single into left field in the bottom of the sixth. The other RBI would come from second baseman Brett Griffiths, who poked an infield single in the first inning to score the Potters’ first run of the game.

The Potters will go for the series sweep over the Novato Knicks tomorrow afternoon in the Slice Sunday Day Game at McBean, with first pitch slated for 1:05pm.
