The dads were out in full force Sunday as the Lincoln Potters squared off with defending champions, the Healdsburg Prune Packers in a CCL battle. Lincoln battled but the Healdsburg bats proved to be too much, as the Packers took the game 8-3. The loss marks the sixth in the last seven games for the Potters

“We made some big errors that cost us some runs,” said manager Ryan Stevens. “I think that's a 4-2 ballgame without the mistakes. That kind of stuff that's going to hurt you against a good team like that.”

Carter Delaney (Folsom Lake College) took the mound to start the game for the Potters, but only went three and one-third innings. Four Potter pitchers came out of the bullpen and tried to limit the damage, but struggled with a deep Healdsburg lineup. The Prune Packers picked up 14 hits in the contest.

On the offensive end Lincoln struggled with the Packer pitching, striking out 15 times in the contest. Despite the struggles to get bat on ball, the Potters still picked up six hits in the contest. New Mexico products Jeffrey David and Justin Olson each had an RBI for the Potters.

Stevens commented on the hitting struggles of the team, stating that “right now we're just finding a way to get in bad counts and not really ready to hit. I think that's one thing that we need to fix moving forward. I think the biggest thing is just being more competitive with the dish. You know, we had a good night last night but it's inconsistent.”

The Potters will have an off day tomorrow before returning to McBean for their first matchup of the season against the Walnut Creek Crawdads on Tuesday. Lincoln enters the contest a half game back from the Crawdads in the CCL North standings.

Stevens offered his thoughts on what the team needs to do to right the ship after a tough week of baseball.

“We’ve  got to compete. You have to have some pride in what you do, and I think right now we got to have a little more pride in what we do and we got to attack it when we come to the ballpark every day with a little more energy,” Stevens said.
