Lincoln Sweeps Seattle For Fifth Straight Win

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters beat the Seattle Studs yesterday afternoon to sweep the four-game weekend series and win their fifth game in a row. The Potters struck first once again, pulling out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Studs answered back however, pulling ahead 3-2 with a big three-run homer in the third. Their lead wouldn’t last long, as the Potters put up five runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead 7-3. Lincoln added two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cruise to an 11-4 victory. Lincoln has scored double-digit runs in four of their last five games played. The Potters have now won twenty-two of their last twenty-five games and improved their record to 34-17 this season.

The Potters had power at the plate all afternoon, with seven extra-base hits including two home runs from Garret Forrester and Quinton Hall. Jeffrey David, Quinton Hall, Garret Forrester, Jack Grant, and Josh Rolling each hit doubles in the ballgame. Josh Rolling had himself a game with four runs batted in, all in the first three innings of the contest. Jack Grant had an RBI as well with a single in the second inning. The Potters totaled eleven runs on thirteen hits and left just four runners on base.

Starter Eli Garcia earned the win in a strong start, going four and two-thirds innings and striking out nine batters. Yesterday’s win improves Garcia’s record to 5-3 so far this season. Daniel Sotelo took over with two outs in the fifth and pitched one and one-third innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two. Skye Wells, Ryan Gallagher, and Jojo Villareal shared the work in the final three innings with each player pitching an inning.. The Studs were able to string a few hits together in the eighth and ninth innings, but clutch pitching by Gallagher and Villareal kept Seattle off the board.

The Potters have Monday off but will be back at McBean on Tuesday against the Walnut Creek Crawdads to start the final week of regular season play. The Potters are just one win away from clinching a spot in the CCL State Championship Tournament at McBean Park and can do so tomorrow night with a victory over the Crawdads.
