Potters Stay Hot With Win Over Solano

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters stayed hot last night with a blowout win over the Solano Mudcats. The Potters once again got on the board early with a three-run first inning before adding one more in the fourth. The Mudcats got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with two runs, which would be their only offense in the ballgame. The Potters added one in the fifth before blowing the game wide open with a four-run sixth inning to pull ahead 9-2. Lincoln continued to pile it on with a six-run eighth to win the game 15-2. The Potters have now won eleven of their last twelve games.

Matt Voelker was a force for the Potters offensively, going 3-6 with six RBI in the game. All three of Voelker’s hits were doubles. Chase Stanke continued his recent hot streak as well, going 4-5 with two RBI. Stanke now has twelve hits in his last four games. Trey Furrey brought two runs home as well in a night where he went 2-6 at the plate. Jake Sapien, Trevor Haskins, and Trace Willhoite all brought home runs as well. The Potters have hit well against Solano all year, as this game was the fourth straight win by double-digits against the Mudcats.

Lincoln’s pitching was dominant in the game, only giving up two runs on seven hits. Starter Carson Kohls earned his third win of the season to improve to 3-1 on the year. Kohls went four and two-thirds innings while allowing six hits, two runs, and striking out six. Brandon Gomez entered the game in relief and had an impressive outing, retiring all seven batters that he faced and striking out four of them. Jojo Villareal and Skye Wells finished the final two innings for the Potters, allowing just one hit and keeping the Mudcats off the board to close out the game.

The Potters head into the all-star break in second place in the CCL North Division and have started to distance themselves from Solano and Walnut Creek. They will be back in action on Thursday night at McBean against the Walnut Creek Crawdads. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm.
