Potters Lose Back and Forth Battle

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters lost their fifth straight game tonight in a back and forth battle with the Healdsburg Prune Packers. The Potters got on the board early in the first to get out to a 1-0 lead, capitalizing on an error by the Prune Packers. Healdsburg was quick to respond however, scoring in the next three innings to pull out to a 3-1 lead. The Potters evened things up in the fifth with two runs but the Prune Packers put up two of their own in the seventh to regain the lead. The Potters pulled closer with a homer in the seventh but the Prune Packers added on some insurance runs late and held on for a 7-4 win. The Potters now fall to 11-14 on the season.

The Potters had a strong showing offensively tonight, with ten hits in the ballgame. Drew Stahl was seeing the ball well, as he went two for three with a triple and a solo home run in the contest. Trevor Haskins had another impressive night at the plate, going two for five with a double. Jason Brandow and Trey Furrey each added an RBI to their season total with a pair of singles in the fifth inning that would tie the game up at three. In total the Potters had four runs on ten hits with seven runners left on base.

Starter Bradley Wilcott had an impressive start to the game on the mound, retiring the first three batters in the first inning of the game. Wilcott went three and one-third innings with three earned runs on six hits, while striking out four. Ryan Bruno had another strong outing in relief today as he went two and two-thirds innings, only allowing one hit and striking out six. Bruno didn't allow any runs in his appearance. In the later innings, wild pitches became an issue with two of the final three runs for Healdsburg coming as a result.

“We’re playing a lot better baseball of late, sure the wins and losses aren't going our way but what I’m looking for is progression. I think if we clean a few more things up we are going to get a lot of wins soon.” said manager Ryan Stevens after the game.

The Potters are back tomorrow night for a crucial home game against the Walnut Creek Crawdads with first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm. Watch the Potters live on Facebook and listen on Potters Radio via the mixlr app. Also follow along on twitter @LincolnPotters to get live updates!
