Potters Fall to Mudcats in Walk Off

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters fell to the Solano Mudcats on Wednesday night in their second straight game that went down to the wire. The game was a stalemate for the first four innings with both teams staying off the scoreboard, though the Potters did leave multiple runners in scoring position. The Potters got on the board first with a big fifth inning to pull out to a 3-0 lead. They added one more in the sixth but Solano would use a four-run inning to tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth. Both teams remained tied until the ninth inning where the Mudcats were able to walk it off with two outs to win the game 5-4. With this loss the Potters fall to 11-13 on the season.

The Potter offense was making good contact on Wednesday, but unfortunately ran into some bad luck when it came to balls finding gaps in the field.. The team did struggle getting runners home with ten left on base, seven of which were left in scoring position. Trey Furrey had himself a night with three hits in four at-bats. Newcomers Jeffery David and Trevor Haskins both introduced themselves to the team in style in just their second game with the Potters. David went two-for-four with two RBI in the contest, while Haskins went two-for-five with an RBI on a big triple that he hit in the sixth inning. The Potters totaled four runs on ten hits in the contest.

Starting pitcher Jeremy Hassel had an impressive outing for the Potters on the mound, pitching four shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out three. Logan Bell had an impressive relief outing, only giving up one hit and one walk in his one and two-thirds innings pitched. Bell did allow two runs but neither of them were earned as he inherited the runners from the previous reliever. The Potters allowed five runs on eleven hits in the game.

The Potters will return home on Thursday for a three-game weekend homestand with games against the Prune Packers, Crawdads, and Mudcats. It all starts Thursday night with a 6:05 first pitch against the Healdsburg Prune Packers at McBean.
