Potters Fall to Blues in Another Rough Game

By Jordan Georgeson

It was another night to forget at Historic McBean Stadium tonight as the Potters fell to the San Luis Obispo Blues in game two of the series 14-3. The Blues once again wasted no time getting on the board as they hit back-to-back two-RBI doubles to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. They came back just as aggressive in the second, adding three more runs to extend the lead to 7-0. The Potters were able to answer back in the third thanks to a pair of RBI singles by Jason Brandow and Trace Willhoite to close the gap. Lincoln was able to get one more across in the fourth but were unable to put together more offense in the game. The Blues were able to pile it on again with a crooked number in the sixth and seventh innings. In the end, the Potters were unable to silence the Blues offense and dropped their fourth game in a row. They look to get back in the win column tomorrow in the series finale.

Matt Voelker was once again impressive at the plate tonight, goingt three for five with a double and an RBI. Voelker is currently the team leader in batting average on the season. Jason Brandow and Trace WIllhoite were also able to add to their RBI totals on the season, each bringing a runner home in the third. The Potters were ultimately unable to capitalize on opportunities tonight and stranded nine runners on base.

The pitching was hit or miss for the Potters tonight as they tried a new strategy of bringing in a new reliever in each inning after the starter was pulled. Newcomer Ryan Bruno made his Potter debut tonight and pitched a scoreless one-two-three inning in the fourth, striking out two. Brandon Gomez, Marlin Brucato, and Angel Cespedes were all able to shut down the Blues’ bats in their appearances as well. While the Potter bullpen was able to shut the Blues down multiple times, the innings that they struggled all turned into big innings for San Luis Obispo.

The Potters are back in action for the series finale tomorrow against the Blues at 1:05pm. Watch the Potters live on Facebook and listen on Potters Radio via the mixlr app. Also follow along on twitter @LincolnPotters to get live updates!
