Potters Just Keep Winning

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters hit the road for the first time this season and defeated the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox 11-4. Both teams started their scoring early and often in the game, it wasn't until the bottom of the fourth inning that the first zero went up on the scoreboard. The Potters took advantage of multiple errors by the Gold Sox and had three runs on the board before they recorded their first hit of the game. The Gold Sox kept it close through five innings but the Potters were able to rally in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away and win the game 11-4. This win marks the Potters fifth game this season that they have scored double digit runs. The Potters now improve to 7-0 on the season, continuing the best start in team history.

Moneyball was the name of the game at the plate for the Potters on Thursday night as they walked fifteen times in the contest. They also had three hit-by-pitches. Leadoff batter Tag Bross had the most interesting statline of the night with six plate appearances, recording four walks and was hit twice. Eddie Madrigal busted the game wide open in the sixth with a two-RBI triple that would extend the Potters’ lead to 7-4. Madrigal was brought home by catcher Nick Schmit the next at-bat. Quinton Hall, CJ Valdez, Kade Turnage, and Kenneth Jimenez all brought runs home as well.

The Potters bullpen and defense once again dominated in the middle and late innings of the contest, holding the Gold Sox to just one run after starter Matt Voelker was pulled after the fourth. Several Potter relievers made their debuts in Lincoln last night as Logan Bell, Carson Kohls, and Garrett Leggit combined to finish the last four innings for the Potters, only allowing two hits. Center Fielder Tag Bross had the play of the night in the sixth inning with an incredible diving catch to rob the Gold Sox of at least one run and end the inning. Starter Matt Voelker earned the win and is now 2-0 on the season.

The Potters hit the road up to Arcata for a three-game series against the Humboldt Crabs with games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. First pitch on Friday and Saturday will be at 7:00pm, Sunday’s will be at 12:30pm. They will have Monday off before beginning CCL play on Tuesday night against the Walnut Creek Crawdads in Moraga. The Potters return home to McBean on Wednesday, June 9th for their CCL home opener against rivals the Healdsburg Prune Packers.
