Potters Score 11 in Comeback Victory

The Lincoln Potters came back in a big way Friday night, as they overcame an early five-run deficit and defeated the Humboldt Crabs 11-7 in the series opener at McBean Stadium. Brian Martinez gets the win for the Potters as he was dominant in his 2.2 innings of work, striking out three and shutting down the Crabs to end the game. Entering the third inning trailing 5-0, Larry Fonseca (2-3, 2 R, 2 1B, 2 BB) and Lorenzo Debrecht (2-5, 2 1B, 1 R, 1 BB) ignited the offense with singles to collect the Potters’ first hits of the night. Matt Lopez (1-5, 2 RBI, 2 R) then came to the plate and lined an RBI single over the second baseman’s head, followed up by a Daniel Susac (3-5, 1 R, 2 2B, 4 RBI) double that drove in two more. The same formula worked again in the fourth, as Lopez drove in his second run of the night, while another RBI double from Susac tied the game at five. After trading runs, the Potters gave up a single run in the top of the seventh and entered the bottom half of the frame trailing 7-6. RBI singles from Susac and Nolan Young (1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SB) gave the team their first lead of the night, while Jordyn Berry (1-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) put an exclamation point on the comeback as he deposited a three-run bomb into the trees beyond the left field fence, giving the Potters all the momentum that they would need to close out the ball game. The Potters bullpen played a huge role in the comeback victory, as they held the Crabs to just three runs over the last eight innings of the game. Michael Potter came on in relief to start the second and pitched 4.0 innings of two run baseball, striking out two along the way. While Nathan Lemos pitched 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. With the win, the Lincoln Potters improve to 11-7 on the season, and remain 5-5 in the CCL. The Lincoln Potters continue their series with the Crabs Saturday night, June 22, as we host Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Friends of McBean! And just like with all our Saturdays at the ballpark, we'll have $3 Sangrias from Stella Rosa! First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM, with a firework display to follow the conclusion of the game!
