Potters Lose Opener

Morley Doubles down the left field line in the 6th inning

The Potters lost the opener of the championship series Wednesday Night by a score of 7-1. The big blow for the Chico Heat came in the third inning when they put up 5 runs in the inning. The Potters would respond with a solo home run from JJ Santana Jr. but would be unable to score again in the game. The big moment in the game came in the 6th inning when Joe Starick singled then Brian Morley doubled to leadoff the inning and it looked like the Potters could get back into the game only being down 5-1 at the time. However, starter Blake Hannah proceeded to get Austen Swift to hit a soft line drive to the 2nd baseman on 1 pitch, then struck out Will Law and Charles Middleton grounded out on 1 pitch to end the inning and the threat. Chico would score 2 more runs in the game and would win by a final score of 7-1. The Potters face elimination tonight in Chico. 

Heat starter Blake Hannah finished the regular season 5-0 with .99 ERA and .58 WHIP pitching 36 innings and only walking one batter in those innings. Hannah shut down the Potters offense going 7 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and struck out 7 Potters hitters. He earned the win in the game. Craig Schmich only lasted 2 and 1/3 innings while allowing 5 hits 4 runs only 2 earned walking 3 and striking out none. 

Joe Starick had 2 hits in the game and was the only Potter to reach multiple times. 

Potters will play in Chico tonight with the hope to force a game 3. Game time is 6:35. Thank you to the Potters fans who have attended the games at McBean this season! Season tickets are already on sale for next year!
