Potters Walkoff to Start Final Home Stand

Brian Morley goes 2-5 with an RBI Double in the 1st inning.

The Potters walked off in the first game of the final home stand of the season to earn the 6-5 win over the Yuba Sutter Gold Sox. Both teams got 2 runs in the first inning and the game was held there until the top of the 5th inning when the Gold Sox got 3 runs off starter Cody Lindsey to end his night and bring in the Potter bullpen. The bullpen continued it's recent run of good performance starting with Parker Ruoff. Ruoff worked out of the 5th inning and worked a scoreless 6th inning. Eli Garcia worked a scoreless 7th inning. The Potters would score 2 runs in the 7th inning both via the bases loaded walk. With the bases remaining loaded, Kyle Johnson stepped to the plate and ripped a first pitch fastball that hit runner Zach Patterson while trying to advance to 2nd base, ending the inning and the rally. "That seemed like a tough blow but I know with our guys and the way we are, if we are within a run then I feel good about our chances" said Ryan Stevens after the game.

Erik Lopez would start the 8th inning and work another scoreless inning keeping the game close for the Potters. The Potters would load up the bases again and tie the game on a wild pitch but couldn't take the lead. Lopez would work another scoreless inning in the 9th to set up the bottom of the ninth. Due to the short bench with a couple injuries for the Potters and after Walker Dodero was pinch ran for earlier in the game, pitcher Nolan Murphy would pinch hit to start the ninth inning. Murphy got on base after getting hit by a pitch, much to the delight of the Potters dugout. Then Johnny Pacheco got walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Chase Matheny would try to bunt them over but Murphy was thrown out at third to keep runners at 1st and 2nd. It was the Potters third failed bunt attempt of the night. After a Fonseca popout, a 2 strike strike single loaded the bases for Austen Swift in one of the strangest at bats of the season. Swift quickly fell behind in the at bat 0-2. After fouling a pitch off and then taking a ball, Swift was hit by the pitch in what appeared to end the game however the umpire ruled swift leaned into the pitch andthe count remained moved to 2-2. After a couple more foul balls and another ball, Austen Swift lined a ball into left field for a single to win the game for the Potters. Erik Lopez earned the win while the Potters improve to 29-20 and have won 4 games in a row. Meanwhile the Gold Sox fall to 14-32.

When asked about the bullpen after the game Manager Ryan Stevens said "Going into the playoffs, this is going to be key. The guys who come out of the bullpen are feeling more rested because I'm not throwing them everyday which makes them more effective." The Potters worked 12 walks in the game which seemed to work against the Potters approach as they were sometimes too patient or too aggressive. "Sometimes it's easier to hit a pitcher who is throwing a lot of strikes because you know they are going to be around the plate. You just gotta stay strong and stick with your approach, if not just take the walk and help the team." Ryan Stevens said of his hitters after the game.

The Potters will look to secure the series win tonight as Ryan Gil will be on the mound for the Potters. Gates open at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:35. You can buy tickets here: Tickets
