Potters Unable to Comeback, Lose SeriesThe Potters dropped the final game of the series to the Chico Heat on Thursday night. The Potters allowed all 7 runs come across to score in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. Walker Dodero was the starting pitcher for the Potters and went 4 innings allowing 6 hits 3 runs only 2 of them earned, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Manager Ryan Stevens said, "A couple plays don't go his way and he gave up 3 runs because of it. That doesn't show how good of a game he pitched tonight. He pitched really well and kept us in the game. If our defense is on tonight, he probably only gives up one run." The Potters defense committed 4 errors in the game, and 12 for the series. "We've got to tighten up the defense on the infield. We will move guys around moving forward to try and figure it out" Ryan Stevens said of his defense after the game. On the other side of the ball, Heat Starter Shane Gustafsen dominated the Potters offense for 6 innings. Gustafsen allowed only 4 hits and didn't allow a single walk. He struck out 5 in those 6 innings. Ryan Stevens said "Gustafsen is really tough out there on the mound. He's got a different arm slot and throws both a fastball and curveball for strikes. He kept our hitters off balanced. We had a chance in the 5th inning to get something going after a leadoff single but Charles hit a ball right back at Gustafsen he made a nice play to double us up." Gustafsen took the win while Dodero took the loss. The Potters got 2 in the 7th inning after some wild pitches that allowed Brian Morley and Will Law to score. The Potters then got 2 runs in the ninth thanks to 3 doubles from Charles Middleton, Will Law and Joe Starick. The Potters got the tying run on deck but couldn't capatilize to bring him up with a chance. The Potters fall to 19-13 on the year while the Heat improve to 25-7. James Hayden Nabers had another strong relief appearance going 3 perfect innings in relief to keep the Potters in the game. Manager Ryan Stevens said "Nabers gave the offense the confidence to get back into the game. Hopefully we can work him into the rotation and get him into the game more often." The Potters head onto the road for three games against the San Francisco Seals. They'll be back in Lincoln next weekend for a series against the Medford Rogues. |
