Walk Off Caps Eight Run Comeback

8 Run Comeback

The game is not over until it is over. The Lincoln Potters proved that Tuesday night when they put together an unbelievable comeback to beat the Healdsburg Prune Packers 13-12 in the first game of the Pacific Empire League Championship Series.

Pinch hitter Jason Hanson hit a walk-off, three-run home run that capped off an 8-run, ninth inning to give Lincoln the opener in the best-of-three series. All of Lincoln’s runs in the ninth came with two outs. With two out, two on and down 7, Lincoln got RBI singles by Luke Mansy, Trey Furrey and Will Lindberg before Cole Dillon’s 2 RBI single set up Hanson, who came off the bench to face Healdsburg reliever Mason Lerma.

Closing pitcher Nolan Thebiay came in and struck out the side in the top of the 9th inning to get the momentum going. Starting pitcher Gerald Hanson, brother of Jason Hanson, and relievers Luke Kalfsbeek and Perry Kyles pitched the first 8 innings giving up 17 hits and 12 runs, with only 6 out of them earned. Healdsburg had built up significant leads twice in the game. They scored 6 times in the second for a 6-1 lead and used a four-run rally in the sixth inning to take a 10-4 lead.

The Lincoln Potters (36-16, 16-12) had 13 total hits tonight with 3 Potters with multiple. Kyuss Gargett and Trey Furrey each had 2 while Hasani Johnson had 3 hits, one of them being an RBI triple in the 4th inning.

The Potters have a day break before traveling to Healdsburg on Thursday, August 1 for the second game of the Pacific Empire League Championship Series. First pitch is at 6:00pm. The West Coast World Series starts this Saturday, August 3. All games are at McBean stadium and the Potter’s first game is Saturday at 7:00pm. Potter up!
