Tigers Take Game 2

A short seven inning game on Saturday night at McBean would feature game two of a three-game series between the Potters and the California Tigers. A rough start on defense and a six-run explosion from the visitors in the first frame of action would be all they needed to put this one away, evening the series at one game a piece.

The Tigers would waste no time getting the scoring going in their half of the first, as they would string together six runs on three hits, taking advantage of the Potters’ defensive woes early. They would punch back in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs of their own to put the game within reach, giving Lincoln the momentum once again.

Despite the early offensive onslaught, no scoring would occur until the seventh inning from either team. The pitching duo of Andrew Balentine and Zach Staton would combine for 5.1 innings of scoreless work, with Balentine allowing just one hit and striking out one batter, while Staton logged two perfect innings and five strikeouts. The Tigers would combine for six scoreless innings of their own to finish out the game.

The Tigers wouldn’t go away quietly in the last portion of the game, as they would combine for four runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away for good. A 10-3 final would set up the series rubber match for Sunday night at 7:35. Due to the extreme heat in Lincoln, this will be another seven-inning contest to determine a series winner.
