Potters Hang On To Tame TigersWith the Potters’ Pacific Empire League portion of this week’s schedule out of the way, the team turned their focus to a three-game series against the California Tigers. Despite a valiant Tiger effort in the top of the ninth, the Potters would hang on to an 11-9 victory thanks to another night of fantastic offense. Once again, the Potters offense would waste no time getting to work, scoring three runs in the first two innings to get out to a 3-1 lead. Their opponent would be a familiar face, as Treven Crowley, a former Potter, would get the Friday night nod for the Tigers. Crowley battled through 3.1 innings of work, but the Potters would strike again in his final frame, scoring three more runs to make it a five run game.
Leading the way on the mound was future Sacramento State Hornet Peter Caldera, who logged four innings of work while allowing just one run, two hits, and striking out four batters. Caldera’s first start of the summer was one to remember, as his efforts would earn him the win on this night, his first of the season. Gabe Maya and Micah Marquez would also log scoreless outings of their own, as they combined for three crucial innings out of the bullpen.
Offensively, the Potters had a collectively outstanding night, logging 11 runs on 10 hits throughout the course of this game, and seven of the ten players who recorded a plate appearance would get a hit. Kyuss Gargett, Cole Eaton, and Will Linberg would all have two hits on the day, with Linberg recording an RBI in the process. Eli Small would lead the way in the RBI department with his two throughout the game.
The Tigers would try for one last rally in the top of the ninth, stringing together four runs before the last out would be recorded, giving the Potters their 26th win of the season. They will go for a series victory on Saturday night at 7:35pm against the Tigers, and to continue their red-hot season. |
