Fresh off a sweep of the Humboldt Crabs to begin Pacific Empire League play, the Lincoln Potters went right back to work in their fourth game in a row, taking down the Medford Rogues in a matchup that would come down to the wire. Lincoln would see a four run lead shrink to one, but it would never be lost as the Potters held on by a score of 6-5.

Leading the way for the Potters would be the game’s winning pitcher, Jackson Halverson. Halverson has been a mainstay in the Lincoln rotation so far this season, as tonight’s win is his fourth on the season through 23.2 innings of work. The Medford Rogues would attack early, taking on two runs on four hits in the first frame of the night. Halverson would settle in after that, as he would put together another solid effort, lasting five innings while only allowing three runs and striking out six Rogues batters.

The offense’s hits were limited tonight, but was highlighted by three big swings off the bats of Cole Chamberlain, Sean White and Luke Mansy. Chamberlain would get the offense going in the bottom of the second with an RBI double that scored the first run of the game for the Potters. The next inning featured a two-run 102 mile-per-hour moonshot from Sean White to give the Potters their first and only lead of the game. Another big swing would come in the bottom of the fourth, as Luke Mansy would strike the nail in the coffin with a three-run home run over the right field fence to give the Potters a 6-2 lead.

The Rogues would not go quietly after this setback however, as they would punch back with a run in the top of the fifth, and a rally would start in the top of the eighth that almost turned the game on its head. The Rogues would send six batters to the plate, scoring two consecutive runs on a sacrifice fly and a double, shrinking the Potters lead to just one. The tying run would move just 90 feet away during the next at-bat, but a lineout to left field stopped the bleeding and kept the Potters in the lead. Regan Carter would come in for the ninth inning, and a 1-2-3 frame would seal the game and the win.

Game two of this three game series with the Medford Rogues will kick off at 6:05pm on a Fireworks Saturday at McBean Stadium, where the Potters will look to keep their five-game winning streak alive and stay perfect in league play.
