Potters Take Inaugural PEL Contest

Potters Take Inaugural PEL Contest

A new chapter began in the history of the Lincoln Potters on Tuesday, as they would play their first matchup as members of the newly formed Pacific Empire League, making the switch over from the California Collegiate League. They would face a familiar foe in the Humboldt Crabs, but solid pitching and timely hitting would propel Lincoln to an 8-5 victory.

As has been common so far in the Potters’ season, a three-run second inning from the Crabs would put the Potters in a hole early. A three-run deficit would be nothing special in the eyes of the Potters’ offense, as they would put together five runs of their own in the bottom half of the same inning. The fatal blow would come from first baseman Hudson Brown, who launched a three-run home run over the right field wall, traveling 390 feet and giving the Potters a lead they would hold for the rest of the game.

Leading the way on defense was starting pitcher Adan Perez, who earned the win in the opening league matchup. Perez grinded through six innings of work, striking out four while allowing no earned runs. Three bullpen arms would finish the job in his relief, those being Logan Bell, Jake McKowen, and Preston Brook, who would earn the save.

The Potters will have little time to ride the high of their first league win, as they will be right back at McBean Stadium for a 6:35 start on Wine Wednesday against the Crabs, the second of a three-game series. Lincoln will look to clinch an opening series win and improve to 17-2 on the season.
