Potters sweep RoguesThe Lincoln Potters defeated the Medford Rogues 6-5 Thursday night for their second walk off victory of the series. The win guaranteed not only a third victory in a row and bragging rights over Lincoln’s former Great West League rival, but also secured a series sweep of Medford. The Potters started out on the wrong foot, falling in a 5-0 hole after five and a half innings. Lincoln got its scoring started with a double steal in the bottom of the sixth that scored Chase Weissenborn (New Mexico). In the seventh, Garen Caulfield (Arizona) drove one home while Chase Stanke (Houston) added one in the eighth with a solo shot to make it 5-3. Lincoln strung together some smart at bats in the ninth, stringing together a hit and two walks to load the bases with one out. The Rogues walked in two runs to tie the game before Trevor Tishenkel (Cal) ripped a single up the middle to bring the winning run home. “I love the fight, man. It's not always pretty but if you find a way to get a win in the end, we'll take it,” said manager Ryan Stevens after the game. “And tonight those guys kept fighting and digging deep and they found a way and it was impressive.” The Potter bullpen played a huge part in the win, keeping Medford off the board in the final three innings with the help of Ryan Sturgeon, Nate Kujawski, and Treven Crowley. Crowley earned the win in relief for pitching the ninth inning and shutting down the Rogue bats. Lincoln will resume CCL play on Friday when it visits the second place Walnut Creek Crawdads. Stevens is hopeful that the energy from both a sweep and a walk off will carry over into league play as the Potters make a late push for the playoffs. “We've talked about walk offs before and what they can do for teams and how it can get the morale up in the clubhouse,” said Stevens. “I'm just hoping that you know, it continues into tomorrow and we roll it through the weekend.” Asked what he needs to see from his Potter lineup to pick up a win on the road Friday, Stevens said: “Good pitching, good defense and timely hitting. That's kind of been the story all summer for us. You know, I think that's really it for that.” You can find tonight’s box score here. |
