Potters Clinch Playoff Berth on Record Setting Night

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln potters had a dominant win last night over the Solano Mudcats to punch their ticket to the CCL State Championship. The Potters got on the board early once again, putting four runs up in the bottom of the first inning and five in the bottom of the second to pull out to a 9-0 lead. The Mudcats got three back in the top of the third inning, capitalizing on a defensive error by Lincoln. The Potters kept their foot on the gas however, putting up crooked numbers in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings to win by a score of 20-4. Although the Potters have clinched their spot in the postseason, they still are playing for seeding in these next three games.

Trace Willhoite set two Potters records last night at the plate, most home runs in a game and most runs batted in in a game. Willhoite went 5-5 and had three homers, including a grand slam in the eighth inning that brought his RBI total in the game to nine. Garret Forrester had four RBI and Quinton Hall added three as well. Jason Brandow, Jacob Shaver, and Drew Stahl each brought runners home as well. The Potters had power all night, with eight of their hits going for extra bases. Garret Forrester, Chase Stanke, Quinton Hall, and Trace Willhoite all had multiple hits for the Potters. Offensively Lincoln had twenty runs on seventeen hits and left eleven runners on base.

Jack Horn made the start for the Potters on the mound and earned his second win of the season. Horn pitched five innings and gave up three hits while striking out four. Horn did surrender three runs but none of them were earned. Connor Harrison made his Potter debut last night, going two innings and retiring four batters on strikes as well. Daniel Sotelo and Josh Cohen split the last two innings for the Potters with an inning each. Sotelo did give up one run but still made quick work of the Mudcats in the eighth, facing just five batters. The Potters stuck out eleven and only walked two in the contest.

The Potters are back on the road tomorrow against the Walnut Creek Crawdads for their final road game of the season. They are back for one final two-game homestand this weekend before the CCL State Championship starts on Wednesday.
