Potters Offensive Explosion

(PC: Jordan Georgeson)

The Potters took on the Sonoma Stompers for the second game of a three-game series. The Stompers won on Tuesday night in walk-off fashion, but the Potters looked to bounce back for their CCL home opener. Potter fans were energetic all night as they celebrated the first Stella Rosa Wine Wednesday of the year.

Tonko Susac (University of Arizona) took the mound for the first time of the 2023 season. Brandon Marrion was able to reach base safely to start the game on an error from third baseman Brayden Grantham (USD). Marrion was eventually able to score on a wild pitch, which gave the Stompers an early 1-0 lead. Susac quickly settled in after the first inning. He was mowing down the Stompers' batters, as he struck out four over the next two innings.

The third inning got out of hand quickly as the Stompers began to beat themselves. Zach Chamizo (UC Riverside) was able to reach safely on a throwing error from Stomper pitcher Orlando Leon Jr. Another error from the Stompers allowed Aiden Isola (Sac City) to reach safely as well as score the tying run. Jeric Curtis (Texas Tech) was also able to score on another Stompers error, putting the Potters' lead at 4-1.

Susac continued to dominate on the mound. He finished the night throwing five innings, allowing one unearned run, walking zero, and striking out nine. He was replaced by Gabe Maya (LMU), who picked up right where he left off.

The game was blown open during the eighth inning. Ten consecutive Potters reached base safely to open the inning! Trey Furrey (Oklahoma Baptist) stayed hot with a two-run single to right field, which extended the Potter lead to ten. A two-run single from the RBI machine, Cade Sanchez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi), helped cap off a ten-run inning for the Potters!

Maya continued to shove on the mound. He worked four innings, allowing just one hit and zero runs while striking out four. He also earned his first save of the season as the Potters propelled past the Stompers in an offensive explosion. The final score of the game was 16-1.

The Potters hit the road again on Thursday, June 8th. They look to pick up the series win in the rubber match against the Sonoma Stompers at Arnold Field. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. Tune into the Stones Radio Network to follow along.
