Los Pavorreales Slugfest

PC: Jack Silva

Another beautiful night for baseball at McBean Stadium. Los Pavorreales took on the Menlo Park Legends for the second game of a three game series. Yes you read that correctly, it was Hispanic Heritage Night at the yard, and as a result the Potters turned into Los Pavorreales for the evening.

Tyler Stewart (Sac State) toed the slab as the starting pitcher. Stewart had a phenomenal outing and was able to set the tone for the entire night. Similar to Anthony Perez (Cal State East Bay) from last night, Stewart found himself in an early jam, but was able to rebound and settle in quickly.

Stewart racked up the punchouts in tonight's ball game, totaling eight. He finished his outing going four innings, only allowing one run. Stewart continued what hopes to be a trend of longer outings for Los Pavorreales as they approach CCL league play.

A first inning offensive explosion helped Los Pavorreales put the game out of reach early. A leadoff single from Aiden Isola (Sac City) and a HBP of Zach Chamizo (UC Riverside), set up the team leader in RBI, Cade Sanchez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi). Sanchez did what he always does, and delivered a two run single which gave Los Pavorreales a 2-1 lead.

The runs did not stop there for Los Pavorreales. An RBI hit by pitch of JT Maloney (Sac City) and an RBI walk from Landon Weiss (William Jessup) extended Los Pavorreales' lead to four. A throwing error from Anthony Nunez allowed two more runs to cross in the first inning, making it a 6-1 game.

The game looked to be smooth sailing for Los Pavorreales. Gabe Maya (LMU) followed Tyler Stewart on the mound. Maya worked three innings, allowing two runs. Los Pavorreales quickly made those runs up, thanks to an RBI fielder's choice from Brandon Springer (William Jessup) and a two run single from JT Maloney (Sac City).

Los Pavorreales continued to be patient at the plate, racking up thirteen walks on the night, bringing the total to twenty nine in the first two games of the series.  An RBI walk from Zack Malone (Sac State) extended Los Pavorreales lead to twelve.

The Legends attempted to make a late game comeback in the eighth inning. Kai Burdick (University of San Francisco) will look to turn the page after his outing tonight. Burdick walked the first two batters he faced, then hit the next two he faced. An RBI single from Jacob Froess and another free pass issued from Burdick, forced Jon Peters to make a call to the bullpen.

Grant Kelly (College of Southern Nevada) took over for the final two innings of the game. He shut the door and helped extend Los Pavorreales win streak to three games.

Los Pavorreales take the field again on Sunday, to close out the three game series with Menlo Park. As always, it is Military Appreciation Day. Veterans and family get in for free at McBean Stadium. First pitch is at 1:05PM, gates open at 12:05PM.
