Fireworks were not scheduled for after the game, but Potter fans got the show anyways. 

The Potters took the field on Thursday as we celebrated our first Thirsty Thursday of the 2023 season. 1099 thirsty Potter fans packed McBean Stadium for the final game of a two-game set with the Sacramento Yankees. 

Peyton Stumbo (University of Nevada Reno) got his first start of the season. Stumbo was dialed in from the minute he toed the slab. In the previous two games for the Potters, the bullpen has been taxed with innings. Stumbo allowed manager Jon Peters to give the bullpen much needed rest. Stumbo went four shutout innings, facing the minimum, and striking out two. 

Hits were at a premium for both teams, six for the Yankees and only four for the Potters. Stumbo was followed on the mound, by Bryan Garrett (Sac City). Garrett surrendered four walks, but was able to escape his two innings of work only allowing one run. 

The game began to fly by as we approached the middle innings. Jon Peters called on brand new Potter, Drake Bicknell (Folsom Lake College). Bicknell was rolling, striking out two of the first three batters he faced. The eighth inning got shaky for Bicknell, as a double from Jaquin Murphy and a throwing error from JT Maloney (Sac City) allowed three more runs to cross the plate, which gave the Yankees a 4-1 lead. 

As the game entered the eighth inning, the Yankees began to beat themselves. An error on the first baseman, allowed Zach Chamizo (UC Riverside) to reach base safely. Chamizo was then able to advance to second on a stolen base, and eventually to third on a pass ball. Cade Sanchez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) continues to drive in runs, as he knocked in Chamizzo on a groundout to second base. 

Patience was the name of the game for the Potters, as they totaled eight walks on the night, five of those coming in the ninth inning. Levi Sotomayor (Sac City) got the rally started with a leadoff line drive that got passed the diving centerfielder, and in for a double. Ben Romano (Tulane University) and Jeric Curtis (Texas Tech) each followed with a walk of their own. A two out bases loaded walk from Aiden Isola (Sac City) tied the game up at 4-4. 

It all came down to the hometown kid Zach Chamizo (UC Riverside). Chamizo continued to be patient, just like his Potter teammates, as he was able to work a 3-2 walk to score the winning run for the Potters, as they walked it off for the first time of the 2023 season! 

Come out to McBean Stadium, Friday June 2nd as the Potters take on the Menlo Park Legends. First pitch is at 6:35PM, gates open at 5:35PM. It's 90's Night! The first 600 fans will receive a Fanny Pack giveaway courtesy of Marques General Engineering!
