The Lincoln Potters lost 8-4 to the Sonoma Stompers on Wednesday, falling to 10-4 on the season.

The Potters scored first. After Nolan Clifford (Creighton University) drew a walk to start the bottom of the third inning, Jeffrey David (University of New Mexico) slammed an RBI double off the left field wall scoring the game’s first run.

An RBI single by Davis Cop and a sacrifice fly by Jack Gallagher helped Sonoma claim a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning.

Despite allowing eight runs, the Potters showed promise defensively. In the second inning, Potter second baseman Chase Weissenborn (University of New Mexico) threw out a baserunner after diving to stop a ground ball. Short stop Nolan Clifford’s sound fielding of a hard-hit grounder and sharp throw to first base helped keep the Stompers scoreless in the fifth inning.

With the bases loaded for Sonoma and no outs in the eighth inning, David fielded a ground ball at third base and threw to catcher Troy Shields (Oklahoma Baptist University) at home for the force out. Shields then quickly threw to first base to complete the team's second double play of the night.

But a line drive single by Alexander Gouveia scored two runs, and a base hit by Max Handron scored another, extending the Stomper lead to 8-1.

Lincoln gained some momentum in their half of the eighth inning. Trevor Tishenkel (University of California, Berkeley) outran a Stomper throw to earn an infield single, and after Dan Pruitt (Oklahoma Baptist University) reached on a throwing error, Brandon Motheral (University of Pacific) brought both home by knocking a double off the wall in right field.

The Potters will face the Healdsburg Prune Packers on the road tomorrow.
