The win marks the Potters’ 12th consecutive victory over the Gold Sox and second straight series opening sweep.

Manager Ryan Stevens offered his thoughts of how important it is to start the summer off on a winning foot, stating “It's huge. It kind of sets the momentum going forward. When guys come in here, they know what we're about. And, you know, we've preached that since day one when these guys got into town that we're going out here to not only compete, we're out here to win.”

The story of the day was Trey Furrey (Oklahoma Baptist University), who went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, and six runs batted in. 

“He's a great player,” said Stevens. “Once Trey’s comfortable and confident, he's electric. He's a veteran out here now and we got to have him hit like that and it was huge for him today.”

Furrey wasn’t the only Oklahoma Baptist product to send one over the fence Sunday, as Dan Pruitt hit a two-run blast over the netting and into the backyards behind McBean’s left field fence. Other notable offensive performances include Brandon Motheral (University of the Pacific), who went 3-for-5, and hometown kid Zach Chamizo (Sierra College), who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Mason Hilton (Stephen F. Austin) started the afternoon for the Potters, earning the win in four innings of work. Hilton allowed one run on three hits while striking out four. Cort MacDonald (Stanford University) made his pitching debut for Lincoln after playing in the field for games one and two. The incoming freshman had a strong outing with four innings pitched, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits.

As colleges finish their respective seasons, many new names and faces will make their way to Lincoln for the summer. Stevens gave his feelings on how important it is to have a winning culture established early on in the summer for new players.

“I think these guys have set the tone now for the new guys and they gotta understand that if they're gonna come in here, they got to earn their spot,” said Stevens.

The Potters will have the next two days off before returning home to face the Sacramento Yankees on Wednesday.
