The Lincoln Potters made a statement with their win on Tuesday night against the Solano Mudcats in a game that they controlled from start to finish. Lincoln once again got off to an early start with two runs in the first to pull out to a 2-0 lead. The Mudcats answered back with a run in the top of the second to close in on the lead 2-1. The Potters put up crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth innings to widen their lead to 6-1. They used a big five-run seventh inning to blow the game wide open and extend their lead to double digits. The Mudcats got one back in the ninth but the Potters held onto their big lead to win the game 12-2. This is the Potters’ third straight home win and their third win in the last four games.

The Potter offense was dominant tonight, putting up runs in five of the eight innings that they were up at bat. PAC-12 freshman stars Daniel Susac and Garret Forrester got the party started in the first inning with each player bringing in a run to start the contest. Jeffrey David and Mason Holt each added an RBI in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-1. The Potters brought two more home in the fifth thanks to an RBI double by Jake Sapien and an error. Daniel Susac had another big three-run homer in the seventh inning to blow the game wide open in favor of the Potters. That homer was Susac’s second of the season and his fourth, fifth and sixth RBI of the year in just two games played. Jake Sapien and Jeffrey David both went three for four with Sapien adding an RBI and David bringing home two. Nine of Lincoln’s seventeen hits were for extra bases.

Starting pitcher Carson Kohls had another solid start for the Potters as he continues to solidify himself as a crucial part of the starting rotation. Kohls went five innings and allowed just five hits and one run while striking out four. Kohls also didn’t walk any batters and earned his second win of the season. Shane Gustafson entered the game in relief in the sixth and made quick work of the Mudcats, facing just four batters without allowing a single hit. Carter Dulaney pitched the final three innings of the game, allowing five hits and just one earned run as well. The Potters only walked one batter in the game. Lincoln’s defense was strong tonight as well, with Garret Forrester, Drew Stahl, and Mason Holt all making impressive plays in the field. 

“I think Carson Kohls is the dominating factor on the mound for us, he had another really good start again today, I think that’s his third or fourth in a row.” said manager Ryan Stevens about his starter’s performance today. “Today was probably the most through-and-through game we’ve played.”
