Potters Drop Pitcher’s Duel

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters fell to the Walnut Creek Crawdads on the road Tuesday night in a pitcher’s duel that went down to the wire. The Crawdads got on the board in the first on a close play at the plate thanks to an RBI single by Jake Brandel. They doubled the lead in the second inning when they brought a run home on a passed ball. The Potters were able to cut the lead in half in the fourth when Kenneth Jimenez brought home Jason Brandow with an RBI single. The Crawdads added an insurance run in the eighth to extend the lead to 3-1. The Potters threatened in the ninth with two runners in scoring position and at one point even had the tying run on third but could only get one run across the plate as the Crawdads hung on for a 3-2 victory.

The Potters had solid hitting on Tuesday as they totalled nine hits but could only score two runs in the contest. Quinton Hall had another good game offensively, with two hits on four at-bats. Jake Sapien and Jeffery David had themselves two for four nights as well. Trey Furrey and Kenneth Jimenez each added a RBI to their season totals. Jason Brandow had one of the biggest hits of the night, with a big triple in the fourth inning that would result in a run thanks to an RBI single by Kenneth Jimenez to get the Potters on the board.

Starter Carson Kohls had a good night on the mound, going four innings and allowing two runs on three hits, while also striking out five. Daniel Sotelo pitched one inning in relief in the fifth and shut down Walnut Creek’s offense, striking out two without allowing a single baserunner. Marlin Brucato had another impressive relief outing, going two and two-thirds innings and only allowing a single run. Errors haunted the Potters yet again as they had another game with multiple errors, committing four on Tuesday.

“It’s frustrating but at the same time, i think it’s not an effort thing it’s more of a physical thing.” Said manager Ryan Stevens after the game. “Physical errors happen but as long as we’re not having mental errors, I think today’s ballgame is something that we can grow upon for sure.”

The Potters are back in action on Wednesday night as they hit the road to take on the Solano Mudcats. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm. Watch the Potters live on Facebook and listen on Potters Radio via the mixlr app. Also follow along on twitter @LincolnPotters to get live updates!
