Potters Fall to Kings

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters continued their struggles at home in a close loss against the West Coast Kings on Saturday night. The Kings got on the board first with a solo homer and a RBI double to pull ahead 2-0 in the second inning. The Potters tied it back up in the third when Quinton Hall hit a two-RBI single to center. The Kings quickly took the lead back in the fourth with a big triple. They scored again with an RBI single in the fifth and padded their lead with a two-run homer in the sixth to make it a 6-2 game. The Potters got one back in the seventh but left the bases loaded to end the inning. Lincoln threatened in the last two innings but couldn't bring runners home and the Kings held on to win 6-3. With this loss the Potters fall to 11-10 on the season.

The Potters had multiple opportunities offensively to close the gap and even take the lead but ultimately struggled bringing runs home. Quinton Hall added two more RBI to his season total in the ballgae when he brought two runners home with a big single in the third. Trey Furrey was credited with an RBI as well when he was walked with the bases loaded in the seventh. The Potters threatened multiple times in the later innings but just couldn't capitalize. They had a rally going in the eighth inning with two outs but were robbed of at least two runs by an incredible catch from Kings’ right fielder Gavin Malone. The Potters left eight runners on base, including six in the final three innings of the game.

The Potters pitching was solid for most of the night but did have trouble giving up two out rallies three separate times in the game. Starter Easton Turnage went three innings and gave up two runs on four hits while striking out five. Ryan Bruno had another impressive outing in relief as he continues to establish himself as a key reliever in the Lincoln bullpen. Bruno went three innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight while not giving up any runs.

“I think it’s a string of bad luck and also we’re beating ourselves a little bit here and there...we just need to find our sync here and I think we have a lot of wins coming at McBean” said manager Ryan Stevens after the game. “I think right now it's one of those things, it's baseball and we’re not getting those bounces.”

The Potters are back in action tomorrow night for another game against the Prune Packers with first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm. Watch the Potters live on Facebook and listen on Potters Radio via the mixlr app. Also follow along on twitter @LincolnPotters to get live updates!
