Potters Dominant in Win Against Gold Sox

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters offense was dominant on Friday night in their blowout victory over the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox. The Potters wasted no time getting on the board, scoring four runs in the first inning of the game. The Gold Sox took advantage of a few errors by Lincoln to start the game and narrowed the deficit to 4-3 at the end of the first. Lincoln was able to add one more in the second and three more in the fourth to blow the game wide open in their favor. They used a seven-run sixth inning and a six-run ninth inning to cruise to a 22-5 blowout victory. With this win the Potters improve to 11-9 on the season.

The Potters’ bats were aggressive from the start as they were able to take a lead in the first inning and hold it all night. Kade Turnage got the party started with a sacrifice fly in the first that brought home Quinton Hall. Just a few batters later, Jake Sapien blasted a three-run homer to put the Potters up 4-0. Trey Furrey brought one home in the second inning with an RBI single to center field. Furrey added another with a single in the ninth. Quiton Hall had another impressive night offensively, with three hits in five at-bats, including two homers and five RBI. Jack Grant brought three runs home tonight in his three-for-three game, including a big RBI triple in the fifth inning. Carson Blatnick brought home his first runs of the year with a two-RBI single in the sixth. Jason Brandow, Kenneth Jimenez, and Drew Stahl all brought runs home as well in the contest. In total the Potters had twenty-two runs on seventeen hits in the ballgame.

Although the Gold Sox scored five runs, only one was earned as pitching was once again dominant for the Potters. Starter Shane Gustafson earned the win in his impressive start, going four innings and only allowing three hits with one walk, while striking out eight batters. Gustafson did allow three runs but none of them were earned as they were the result of errors. Jojo Villareal entered the game in the fifth and picked up right where Gustafson left off, pitching four innings with two hits and seven strikeouts. Villareal had allowed two runs with one of them being an earned run. He also retired seven straight batters in his appearance, retiring five of those seven on strikes. Logan Bell entered in the ninth inning and made quick work of the Gold Sox with just eighteen pitches and two strikeouts. The Potters had seventeen strikeouts as a team and just four walks in the game.

The Potters are back at Historic McBean Stadium tonight for a game against the West Coast Kings. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm. The Potters are just a half game behind the Prune Packers for first place in the CCL North Division.
