Potters Struggles Continue

By Jordan Georgeson

The Potters continued their recent skid on Friday night with a loss to the visiting San Luis Obispo Blues. The struggles came early and often in this one as the Blues hit a big solo shot in the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Blues added another run in the second inning and then blew the game wide open with a big six-run fourth inning. San Luis Obispo piled more runs on in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to double digits. The Potters were able to put together rallies in the sixth and seventh innings but ultimately came up short, falling to the Blues 15-5. This is the third loss in a row for the Potters as they fall to 9-5 on the season.

The Potters struggled at the plate for most of the night as they were only able to get one hit in the first five innings of the game. They found an offensive spark in the sixth inning and were able to load the bases before recording a single out. Evan Hafley, Jason Brandow, and Trace Willhoite all brought home runs to get the Potters on the board. Matt Voelker belted a two-run homer in the seventh to cut the deficit again. Unfortunately the Potters were unable to string together more offense in the later innings of the game.

The pitching had a rare night to forget tonight as they were unable to string outs together and allowed a total of twenty hits in the contest. Lincoln’s defense had their own fair share of struggles as well, commiting six errors. The Potters were able to stop the bleeding with several defensive substitutions and adjustments in the middle and later innings but the damage had already been done.

The Potters look to bounce back tomorrow night as the Blues are back for game two of the three-game weekend series. First pitch is scheduled at 6:05pm.
