Manager Ryan Stevens gave his thoughts after the game, saying how he felt the win signified the team maturing and finding ways to battle when behind.

“It's huge man. It's a step in the right direction for this team. We haven't really got those big hits in the big moments and it just shows that the process is working and these guys are buying in,” said Stevens.

The Potter defense showed up early, as several key plays helped keep the Stompers off the board in the early innings. Jeffrey David (New Mexico) made two of those plays, gunning down a runner at home four a double play and robbing a double at the warning track.

Jeffery is the ultimate utility guy you can play anywhere in the outfield and pretty much anywhere in the infield,” said Stevens. “His athletic ability is why he's so special. Tonight especially you saw some huge plays out of him and it's second to none. He's a really good player.”

Lincoln struck first in the second inning when Nolan McCarthy scored on an error by the Sonoma right fielder. The Stompers evened things up in the fifth and then took the lead in the seventh thanks to a pair of RBI from Alex Leopard (Santa Rosa JC).

Lincoln found itself in a tough spot late after failing to take advantage of five Stomper errors. The Potter offense delivered in a big way in the bottom of the eighth however, as Nolan Clifford (Creighton) drove two home with an RBI single that gave Lincoln a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth.

“Hitting is something he's been trying to work on while he's been out here,” said Stevens about Clifford. “He's in the cages every single day getting after it and I'm just so happy for him that he got that big hit there.”

Hunter Hayes (Pacific) earned the win in relief, pitching the final two innings and shutting down the Stomper bats. Hayes allowed no runs on three hits while striking out four in the contest. 

Craig Schmich (Minot State) had another strong start for the Potters, allowing just one run in five innings of work. Bryan Green (UC Davis) went two innings as well, allowing one run on two hits.

The Potters will be on the road tomorrow for a matchup against the Walnut Creek Crawdads. Lincoln returns to McBean on Saturday night for another league contest.
