Potters Win Wild Game Against Mudcats

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters won a wild game last night against the Solano Mudcats for their seventh win in a row. The Mudcats got on the board first, putting up six runs in the second inning of the ballgame. Lincoln would answer the bell quickly however, with ten runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. After a sixteen-run inning things slowed down considerably through the next three innings, with the only run coming from an RBI single in the fifth for the Mudcats. Lincoln blew the game wide open in the sixth inning, putting a five spot up on the scoreboard. Lincoln put up another in the eighth to finish the scoring and win the game 16-7. Tensions between the two sides boiled over in the eighth inning when both benches emptied briefly but the game finished without incident.

Trey Furrey had himself not only a night to remember, but an inning to remember as well. Furrey went 3-4 with four runs batted in in the contest. All four of Furrey’s RBI came in the second inning when he blasted two separate two-run homers in the same inning. Furrey now has four homers in the last three games. Jack Grant had a two-run home run as well in the second inning and then added an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Mason Holt brought two home as well on a 3-5 night at the plate for him. Trevor Haskins, Jason Brandow, and Carson Blatnick each brought a run home as well. The Potters had sixteen runs on sixteen hits in the game and left just six men on base.

Despite giving up six runs, the Potters’ pitching was strong for the majority of the game. Starter Carter Delaney went just two innings but still struck out four batters in his appearance. Jack Horn earned the win in relief last night, pitching four innings and giving up just one run on four hits while striking out three. Jojo Villareal pitched just one inning and retired the side in order in just nine pitches. Marlin Brucato finished out the final two innings on the mound without allowing a single hit or run and walking just one batter. Brucato sent two batters to the bench on strikes as well.

The Potters are back in action today against the Healdsburg Prune Packers for a road CCL matchup. They remain on the road on Tuesday and Wednesday for matchups against the Crawdads and Prune Packers before returning home on Thursday to face the Seattle Studs.
