Potters Fend Off Mudcats For Sixth Straight Win

By Jordan Georgeson

The Lincoln Potters won their sixth straight game tonight with their victory over the Solano Mudcats. The Mudcats struck early, stringing several hits together in the first inning to get on the board. Lincoln answered back quickly once again, putting up three runs in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead. The score stayed the same until the fifth inning, where the Potters put up four to bust the game wide open. The Potters added a run in the sixth and the two teams traded runs in the eighth. Solano fought back in the ninth, scoring two on a big homer but were unable to bring anyone else across the plate and the Potters held on for a 9-4 victory. The Potters remain in second place in the CCL North and now have a five game lead over the Mudcats in third.

Trey Furrey had yet another impressive night at the plate, with a two-run homer, double, and three runs batted in. Furrey now has three extra base hits in the last two games. Garret Forrester brought one run home with a fielder’s choice in the first. Jeffrey David added a run with an RBI triple in the fifth while Drew Stahl and Chase Stanke each added one with RBI singles. Matt Voelker had a big RBI double in the sixth inning that put the Potters up 8-1. The Potters scored their final run of the game in the eighth inning off of a wild pitch. The Potters totaled nine runs on ten hits and left nine runners on base.

Starter Owen Cuffe earned his first win of the season in the contest, going five innings and allowing just three hits and one run. Cuffe retired eight batters on strikes as well. Logan Bell entered the game in relief in the sixth inning and pitched three innings for the Potters. Bell allowed one run on two hits and struck out four in the contest. Skylar Wells closed things out for the Potters on the mound and was able to fend off a late inning rally by the Mudcats to allow the Potters to hold on for the win.

The Potters are back in action tomorrow night against the Mudcats to wrap up their brief two-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm. Watch the Potters live on Facebook and listen on Potters Radio via the mixlr app. Also follow along on twitter @LincolnPotters to get live updates!
