Six Run Inning Helps Potters Beat Bears in Series Opener

With the help of a six-run third inning, the Lincoln Potters beat the Yuba City Bears in game one of their three game series. The Potters beat the Bears with a final score of 10-6.

The Bears added to the score first scoring three runs in the bottom half of the first inning making it 3-0.

It wasn't until the third inning when the Potters got on the board. Elijah Garcia got on base by a walk but then scored a run with the help of a double by Zach Hoffman. Zach Hall then hit a single to score Jake Boyd and Hoffman. An error by the Bears helped Jacob Allen get on base and scored Derek Molina and Hall. The inning wasn’t over as Garcia came up to the plate for the second time in this inning hitting an RBI single to score Gilbert Sauceda.

The Potters then scored in consecutive innings following the third. In the top of the fourth, Molina hit an RBI single to score Boyd. Hall then had a sacrifice fly to score Hoffman. In the top of the fifth, Garcia scored on an RBI single by Boyd.

Yuba City chipped at the Potters’ lead in the bottom of the fifth adding two runs making the score 9-5. But another insurance run was added in the top of the sixth by the Potters. Allen hit an RBI double to score Hall. The Bears answered back in the bottom of the sixth but only added one more run to their score. The sixth inning was the end of all of the scoring for the game.

The Potters’ offensive leaders for the night included Hoffman who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, Hall who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Molina who went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Boyd who went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored, Garcia who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk, and Allen who went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

On the mound, Matt Steinford got the start for the Potters pitching three innings while allowing three runs, two of which were earned, on five hits and striking out one. Johnathan Lavallee got the win pitching two innings while allowing two runs on four hits and walking three.

The Potters return to McBean Stadium Tuesday, June 13th at 7:05 p.m. for game two of the series against the Yuba City Bears. The Lincoln Potters are now 9-3 on the season and still hold first place in the Great West League.
