The Lincoln Potters closed out their 2019 season Saturday night and had fun doing so, as they completed the season sweep of the Sierra Nevada Wolves with a 6-5 victory on Fan Appreciation Night. The Potters kept it interesting all night with Thomas Greely showing he is a man of many positions, nine in fact, as he found himself playing every spot on the field at least once. The contest also saw Kody Keroher make his season debut, dominating his one inning of work, setting down the wolves in order and striking out one. Nathan Lemos received the win after coming on in relief during the fifth inning. The Potters and Wolves traded runs in the first inning and entered the bottom of the fourth inning tied up at one. Daniel Susac (1 HR, 2 H) got the offense quickly started though as he roped a lead-off double into the right center gap and was later brought in by Nolan Young to put the Potters up 2-1. With the Wolves tying the game up in the top of the fifth, Greely (1 HR, 1 RBI) stepped up to the plate in the bottom half of the inning and showcased that he wasn’t only a talented fielder, but also has some power at the plate when he crushed his first home run of the season into the trees beyond the fence in left field to give Lincoln a 3-2 lead. Susac then got in on the action in the bottom of the sixth as he took an 0-2 pitch over the container beyond the left field fence for his second home run of the season and doubling the Potters lead at 4-2. Lincoln extended the lead in the eighth inning after Bryce Beauchamp (1 R, 1 BB) lead-off the with a walk and was later brought in by a Lorenzo Debrecht (1 2B, 1 RBI) RBI double. Debrecht later scored in the inning to put the Potter advantage at four. The Wolves made it interesting in the ninth scoring three runs and were threatening to take the lead as they loaded the bases with only one out before Potter legend Larry Fonseca came in and shut down the rally after facing only one batter and inducing a game ending double-play to end the Potters season with a win. Susac and Zach Bushling (2 H) lead the Potters on the night with two hits apiece. As an added bonus, after the conclusion of the game the Potters competed in a home run derby and low and behold the local standout, Daniel Susac, found himself victorious at the end of the contest, racking up six home runs in the final round. Lincoln ends their season with a final overall record of 28-18-1.
