Schmich Shines Out of the Bullpen, Potters Win Series

Patterson drives an RBI double in the 8th.

The Potters won on Friday night by a score of 10-6. The Gems scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning off a Mike Hicks double. The Potters responded with 5 runs in the bottom of 1st inning off of 5 hits capped off by a Johnny Pacheco 2 run single. The Gems then scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning to make it 5-4 game. The Potters got 2 more runs in the 2nd inning to make it a 7-4 game. The game would stay there for quite awhile thanks to stellar performances out of the bullpen from Craigh Schmich and Scott Stokes. Schmich worked 4 and 1/3 innings out of the bullpen allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, no runs, and struck out 2 while earning the win for the Potters. Manager Ryan Stevens said "He gave us a huge lift out of the bullpen tonight. He's had two scoreless appearances this year and both of them went 4+ innings so he was big for us again tonight. The biggest key was he attacked the strike zone and gave our defense a chance." Scott Stokes went 4 innings out of the bullpen without allowing a hit, walking 2 and struck out 6.

The Potters wouldn't get another hit after the first inning until another Johnny Pacheco RBI single in the 7th inning that would make it an 8-4 game. The Potters would add 2 more in the 8th inning and eventually win the game 10-6. The Potters improve to 27-20 while the Gems fall to 18-30.

The Potters defense committed 0 errors in the ballgame and played some of their best defense all season. "Defense wins games. Tonight our pitches attacked the strike zone and our defense made plays because they were ready for it. The defense is always willing to back up good pitching and tonight they proved that." said Ryan Stevens after the game.

The Potters scored all their runs without a home run, much to the delight of the Potters Manager. "It was a good approach, we didn't look to do too much at the plate. It was a good showing for our offense, picking up hits in key spots for us. A good team effort at the plate. Johnny Pacheco had 3 RBI out of the catching position and to get a performance like that from the catcher is huge."

The Potters will look to sweep tonight against the Gems. Jakob Frederick, the All Star is set to start tonight. The gates open at 5:30, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35. You can buy tickets here: Tickets
